Precious, an inspiring film that was adapted from Push, a novel by Sapphire, explores the idea of escapism in society. The film was shown on Sunday, Feb. 21 in the Humanities theatre to celebrate Black History month.

Lately, Purchase has been slightly quieter than in weeks past in terms of crime. With the exception of the unscheduled fire drills in residence halls due to smoking, there hasn’t been any life threatening issues.

Alysia and Christina Hillyard sat comfortably on their parallel twin beds in an Outback dorm room. Old paintings, sketches, and poems lined the floor as drawers were being rearranged.

Alysia spoke proudly of her Haitian family as she waited for the most recent video update to stream, the only form of communication to the paralyzed country across the Atlantic.

Fellow Students,            

We are in a dire state.

We are currently in the throes of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. New York’s unemployment rate is at its highest level in almost seventeen years and is showing no sign of improvement. Yet in the midst of this, we’ve managed to neglect the greatest possible hope our country and our community has to offer: our institutions of public higher education.
