PSGA Blog Number 13: Vacant Senate Seats a Prime Concern for PSGA

On Wednesday, Jan. 27 the PSGA held their first meeting of the spring semester. The primary issue was the introduction of candidates to fill the newly-vacant Senate seats. There are openings in the Music Conservatory, Alumni Village, and Fort Awesome.

Candidates running for these available positions include Manuel Bova, Rory McEntyre, Alexander Stark, Caroline Henderson, Samuel Greene, Delia Drumm, Devon Cassese, Brett Yarris, Cassandra Frake, Matthew Parker, and Bruno Estrada. A few of these candidates spoke at the meeting, expressing their interest in the positions.

“I’m trying to incorporate the creative field with social diversity on our campus,” said Frake when describing her goals to the Senate. A closed session was called following the introductions, and candidates will be elected at a later date.

Former Senator of Music Matt Dunnam has been appointed the Parliamentarian position, which was previously held by Russell Zambito. President of the PSGA Kevin Collymore talked about upcoming events in which Purchase will be contributing to the Haiti relief effort. One of the programs he is involved in is Project Haiti. The semester long effort will be holding its first major event on Saturday, Feb. 6 at the Stood.

Coordinator of Clubs, Services, and Organizations Kristen Benedict held the first Service Board meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 26 which set specific goals for services. Culture Shock was also discussed. Student Activities Coordinator Jordan Davis said he has been working with Major Events Coordinator Sam Schachter to set up security measures for the event.
