After cutting their teeth in the sweaty basement halls of the Long Island hardcore scene, Crime in Stereo decided to do something bigger. They released Is Dead in 2007, which was a polarizing sonic shift from the blistering hardcore they built a fan base on. On their latest effort, I Was Trying To Describe You To Someone, the band find themselves once again testing the limits of hardcore, ultimately shattering them through 40 minutes of darkly layered, ferociously energetic music.

Gil Scott-Heron, the Tennessee-raised “grandfather of rap,” has returned strong after a decade of cocaine-related legal troubles. The 28-minute, 15-track record filled with interludes, simple and grinding drumbeats, covers, and his signature rhythmic poetry is Heron's first studio album since 1994. Only three tracks surpass the three-minute mark, but however brief, I’m New Here is a long overdue generational link that reunites the modernization of the artists's influence with its maker.

Releasing her third album, IRM, French actress and singer-songwriter Charlotte Gainsbourg has stepped out of her father's shadow to emerge as a serious artist. Beck has aided her in this transition by producing, co-writing lyrics, and lending vocals to a record which channels both sleek French-pop and quirky American Indie music.
