PSGA Blog Number Two: Senate Fills Vacated Positions of Student Activities Coordinator, Chair of the Senate, and Parliamentarian

The PSGA held their second Senate meeting of the semester on
Wednesday, Sept. 16 and appointed students to the positions of Chair of
the Senate and Student Activities Coordinator. Former Crossroads
Senator Brittany Mayes was given the position of chair and Jordan Davis
the position of SAC. Former Chair of the Senate Russell Zambito was
also appointed Parliamentarian.

PSGA Blog Number One: New Senators, Vacant Executive Positions, and MEC Charter Changes

The Purchase Student Government Association held its first meeting of the academic year on Wednesday, Sept. 9 to welcome the recently elected 2009-2010 senators and get started on new business. The meeting was chaired by former Chair of the Senate Russell Zambito, who officially submitted his resignation from the position later that day via e-mail. The Senate will interview and appoint someone to the vacant position next week.

PSGA Blog Number 21: The Final Meeting, Election Results Ratified, and President Matoske Falls Down

The 2008-2009 PSGA met for the last time on May 6 and ratified the previous week’s election results for positions including the Major Events Coordinator, General Programming Coordinator, Student Activities Coordinator, and Coordinator of Histories and Documents.

The elected officials included Sam Schachter as the next MEC, former Senator of Music Andrew Kuhl as GPC, former Senator Steven Sabel of Outback as CoHaD, and Tech Services employee Joshua Kirby as SAC. Of all winners, Schachter received the highest voting return with 48 percent of the students’ votes.

PSGA Blog Number 20: Budget Approved

The PSGA approved the 2009-2010 budget on Wednesday, April 29 after several clubs, organizations, and services expressed concerns with some of its figures. In defense of the budget vote, Chair of Senate Russell Zambito eventually moved the meeting to a closed session so the Senate could deliberate without interruptions.

PSGA Blog Number 19: Budget Tabled and The Future of Culture Shock

The PSGA met on Wednesday, April 22 with intentions to vote on next year’s budget, but instead tabled the discussion until next week so it could be better publicized towards clubs, organizations, and services. Saying there was “no reason not to wait another week,” Head of Tech Services Ed Willock sent an e-mail before the meeting showing his concern for the budget discussion, saying that the Senate did not properly advertise the meeting for the budget which in return gave less time for club, organization, and service heads to discuss it.

PSGA Blog Number 18: More Spending, New Yearbook Service, and Culture Shock Updates

The PSGA met on Wednesday, April 8 and approved several funds proposals resulting in a total of $6,850 to be taken from the general reserves. The Senate also said they were working to reallocate funds to alleviate the Culture Shock deficit created by Major Events Coordinator Jeff Levin’s underestimation of expenses, saying they would rather use the general reserves as a last resort.

PSGA Blog Number 17: More Changes to MEC and GPC Position, Funds Proposals, and a Liquor Tent

The PSGA met on Wednesday, April 1 and approved two of three funds proposals from the general reserves. There were also discussions over the Steering Committee’s proposals including further changes to the new PSGA Constitution regarding the positions of Major Events Coordinator and General Programming Coordinator.

PSGA Blog Number 16: Approval of the New Constitution, Culture Shock After Parties, and Security Issues

The PSGA meeting on Wednesday, March 25, included the discussion and approval of the Steering Committee’s PSGA Constitution referendum proposal. Some of the many potential changes were the duties of the Major Events Coordinator, the General Programming Coordinator, and the Student Center Coordinator. The revisions also suggested the creation of two new positions within the Executive Board, the Student Activities Coordinator (within a new Student Activities Board) and the Coordinator of Histories and Documents.

PSGA Blog Number 15: Culture Shock Theme Announced, Proposed Increase in Transportation Fee, and Sustainability

The PSGA met on Wednesday, March 11 for 25 minutes with a short agenda due to the rally of students protesting SUNY tuition increases and budget cuts outside of Student Services. With few items besides executive reports and general funds requests, Major Events Coordinator Jeff Levin raised the most attention from the Senate with his reports on Culture Shock.

PSGA Blog Number 14: Culture Shock Line Up, New Finance Bylaws, and the End of the Stood Probation

Recently impeached Major Events Coordinator Jeff Levin announced confirmed and tentative bands on the Culture Shock line up on Wednesday, March 4 at the PSGA meeting. Levin said that Friday, April 17, The Dear Hunter, The Red Chord, Paper Route, Streetlight Manifesto (tentative), and Murphy’s Law (tentative) are on the list. Saturday, April 18th, Telepathe, Margot and the Nuclear So-so’s, The Paper Raincoat, The Bread and Puppet Theatre, The Tallest Man on Earth (tentative), The Cool Kids (tentative), Heavy Mojo (tentative) will play. Menya is scheduled for the after party.
