Hello there Purchase. I hope that you are staying warm and not setting off fire alarms in the process. For the past couple of days there have been a number of incidents involving assaults, graffiti, and marijuana on campus. Here’s what’s been going on:
-On Saturday, Jan. 30, Paul E. Rodas was arrested for assaulting a victim on campus. Both the victim and the assaulter were not students of Purchase, and Rodas is being charged with assault in the third degree.
-From the Farside residence hall an ambulance was requested on Saturday, Jan. 30. An intoxicated female student was taken to White Plains Hospital. There is no word yet on her recovery.
-On the same day, a person reported seeing a female being forced into a vehicle. Luckily it wasn’t serious--just horseplay between friends to see who would get the front seat. If you see something that doesn’t look right, don’t hesitate to report it to the University Police Department. No incident is too small.
-Graffiti has been reported all over campus. On Tuesday, Jan. 26, an unknown person drew eyes on the overpass of Campus Center North. The eyes are said to have resembled the Geico stack of money eyes. On Tuesday, Feb. 2, graffiti was written on the unisex restroom of CCN and on Sunday, Jan. 31, a stairwell in Crossroads was tagged. Please remember that students are the ones who are going to be charged at the end of the semester for damage to the school property. If you have the dire urge to write or draw something please invest in a sketchpad.
-On Sunday, Jan. 31, the smell of marijuana was reported in the basement D section of Crossroads and the first floor B section of Big Haus. That familiar smell was also reported on Thursday, Feb. 4, from the basement of Farside. In all cases no students have been found with the substance.
-On Friday Feb. 5, it was reported from the Crossroads Residence Hall that a person urinated on a door located on the D section of the building. No suspects have been found.
-Fire alarms have continuously been set off in the residence halls, mainly in Big Haus. On Saturday, Jan. 30, fire alarms were set off on the second floor of the building. Residents were taking hot, steam filled showers, which caused the alarms to go off.
There are lost items sitting in the UPD station. If you believe you lost anything, take a trip to UPD and see if it’s there.
If you witness or hear anything suspicious or need assistance, contact University Police at (914) 251-6900 or visit them in the basement of Humanities.
