The men’s Purchase tennis team is continuing to surpass the aspirations they set at the beginning of the season. Since the start of the season, they have won matches against major teams, including the predicted favorite for the season, Yeshiva University.
Recently, the team has returned from Spring Break in Florida, where they played against some of the top team, and they played 1 in 4.
Coach Peter Nestel said that he was impressed with their playing prowess. While in Florida, the team played 11 games in 18 days, and suffered no major injuries. Since their return, they have continued to excel, and have no plans for stopping their wins.
Coach Nestel’s only concern for the rest of the season was that the players are able to handle the strains of hard competition.
“Can they perform at a level they hope for? And will they hold up mentally and strategically?” he asked.
However, he referenced their wins in Florida, where the players were under great physical and mental strain and still succeeded.
With the temperatures rising, the team can only hope that their successes and the pleasant springtime warmth will bring more fans to watch them. “It’s nice to have motivation,” said co-Captain Matt Kucker.
