Currently playing at the Astor Place Theater is one of the most entertaining, uproarious, and magnificent shows in New York City: Blue Man Group. Over 17 million people around the globe have experienced a performance by the group, and it’s obvious why it’s such a phenomenon. From the beginning to the end, Blue Man Group keeps the audience in wonder, making them laugh, and demonstrating routines to them that are amazingly unique.

Never before have I seen a play that starts with such tension. From the second the lights come up, a man rants erratically while the audience wonders what is going on. The attention is then focused on a screaming man who we later know as John, played by The Elephant King's Tate Ellington. Ellington won best actor at both the Tribeca Film Festival and the Brooklyn International Film Festival in 2007.

When thinking of drummers who became front-men, few names come to mind. Phil Collins, Levon Helm, and the more famous figure of this generation, Dave Grohl, are some of them. Unfortunately, Sebastien Grainger (ex-Death From Above 1979) has yet to barely hit the drum head of this list of star composers. Grainger, along with his backing band The Mountains, filled the opening slot for the beloved Canadian super group Metric at New York City's Terminal 5 on June 17.

Saturday night, the official third night of the L Magazine’s Northside Festival, Purchase alumni band, Woods, performed at Williamsburg’s The Shank with Kurt Vile and the Violators, Grooms, and Blues Control. The show was sponsored by the over-self-referential label Less Artists More Condos and free Colt-45’s were provided by VICE magazine.
